Due to the expansion of the covid-19 pandemic, the QR-code reappeared, this graphic label from the early 2010s, that immediately became out of date, like many novelties of our post-modern era ... In 2016 I got the idea of working with these QR-codes: the appearance of these « tags » could not leave me indifferent. It was the starting point to create diptychs: a physical photograph would be linked with a unique webpage, exclusively accessible by this tag, resonating with the first.
Photography, to a very large extent, is documentary. Leaning on tangible reality to adopt a critical or aesthetic posture, it endorses the deep guts of the photographer. According this, the photographer practices an art of interpretation, like the musician, actor or singer. Which does not detract from its value. However, my proper photography does not rely (or few) on this same tangible reality. Or not in the same axis. And I claim another reality - which is neither better nor worse, which is not devoid of guts, nor of aesthetic or critical sense - which is that of my inner world, which is the consequencie of a reaction and a reflection in front of the experience. In my reality, it happens that the eye is less important than my thinking. My eye does not act before the brain, but after. I'm not particulary proud of that, I’m like that.
However, photography experience predominantly remains stuck to this first acceptance of reality: that one which is located before the lens and which precedes the creative act. The result is a posture that is at least contemplative, at best interpretive. My photography proceeds from the creative act: thus, Spams is a series of pictures that never existed (a contrario to Roland Barthes' « it has been »), Finanzmanagers presents amalgamations developed after a long time observation of reality, Avatars are studio reconstructions of a mysterious visual, Achaovyvp is a 3D synthetic imagery, etc.
Until now, this series of QR-codes based diptychs seemed to me quite formal, somehow « art for the sake of art », therefore sterile. But this antinomy of « what precedes and what proceeds » makes it strong.
